History: The Women's Centre

In 1981, the Women's Centre opened in order to provide a safe and supportive atmosphere on campus where women could meet and talk. Since then, UW women have been active in keeping the centre open, updating the resources, and planning events around women's issues. The Women's Centre's activities range from social to political to educational.

We are a women's centred organization who welcomes everyone regardless of gender, sexual orientation, race, age, ability, class, ethnicity, political affiliation, marital status, number of dependents, gender orientation, religion, citizenship, or any other factor that would constitute as a violation of human rights.

The Centre's goal was, and still is, to be active against unfair or discriminatory treatment of women in society while recognizing and celebrating the differences between women and men.
